Last Sunday, Portuguese literature and culture took centre stage at the Portugal Book Day event, organised by VivaCultura/Viva-Educa (Griet Meert) in collaboration with the Brussels-based bookstore, La Petite Portugaise.
This moment revealed itself as a success, having welcomed a handful of guests and fostered an environment for the exploration of new narratives and the exchange of ideas among participants. Within the visitors, we highlight the presence of Leonor Moura, Portuguese Teaching Coordination Assistant for Belgium and the Netherlands (Instituto Camões).
The event was home of two fruitful moments brought by its special guests: In the morning, the Portuguese-Belgian writer Helder Wasterlain, who led an exclusive conversation in Portuguese; and in the afternoon, novelist Sara Brechts who participated in a book signing session for her novels set in Portugal.
For VivaCultura, as a cultural and educational association focused on Portugal, it is moments like these that feel the most enriching and gratifying - promoting portuguese-inspired literature and cultural dialogue to a vast audience, while at the same time gently encouraging its students to embrace stories and talks through the Portuguese language.
The Belgian-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce expresses its gratitude towards Vivacultura’s commitment for organising this kind of initiatives, further strengthening cultural ties between both countries.
