🌊 A deeply moving evening at the European Parliament
Yesterday, the Belgian-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce had the honour of co-organising the screening of “Women from the Sea - Azores” (Raquel Clemente Martins, 2025) at the European Parliament in Brussels, together with MEP Paulo do Nascimento Cabral and Oceana.
Endorsed by the United Nations and recognised by UNESCO, the documentary highlights the powerful relationship between women in Azores and the sea — reminding us that the sea is a source of food, women a source of life: two essentials for the survival of humanity. It also calls attention to the urgent need for sustainable practices to protect our oceans, ensuring that future generations can continue to rely on these vital resources.
The screening and debate were truly emotional and inspiring, placing ocean protection, sustainability, and women's voices at the heart of European discussions about the future of our planet. The presence of the director, Raquel Clemente Martins, added immense value, as she shared her insights and personal reflections, enriching the conversation and connecting the audience even more deeply to the film’s message.
It was an honour to co-organise this event with MEP Paulo do Nascimento Cabral and Oceana.
